scribble picnic :: fairy

I’ve been absent for a few weeks. My dear, sweet husband, the love of my life passed away suddenly two weeks ago and I’ve been, well, a mess.

Most days I’m in sort of a fog but only because I’ve been awake since 2 or 3 in the morning. I’m tired, but can’t sleep. Hungry but nothing tastes good. And the slightest thing makes me all weepy.

I keep busy during the day. You wouldn’t believe all the little tasks associated with someone’s passing. Paperwork. Paperwork. And more paperwork. Endless phone calls. Every time I check one task off my To Do list, three more things are added. Sigh.

My friends and family have been wonderful. Text, email, and phone calls every day to see how I am. “I’m ok” is about all I can admit to.

I haven’t felt like painting or drawing. I hope that doesn’t last long. I NEED to get back in the studio. I know it.

I found this illustration of a fairy I did a few years ago. At least this is a start to get me blogging again. And maybe soon, I’ll pick up a paintbrush again.

I’m sharing this post with Scribble Picnic.

  1. Hi Sue,
I am sorry to hear about your loss. Yes I understand your reluctance and actually time too - to paint. But your painting of the fairy is amazing. I smiled as soon as I saw her. Everything about her from her shoes, wings, dress and crooked grin - I'm still smiling.
    Blessings,
    Janis

  4. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard this must be. I've been married to my dearest for 56 years this June, and he will be 80 in December...these things cross my mind a lot lately. Please feel my love even as I don't really know you. I think your little fairy you did some time ago is perfect, and so glad you have jumped back in in spite of the sadness you are feeling. Sending love and Hugs.

  5. My heart goes out to you on the loss of your dear husband, Sue. Sending you healing thoughts at this very sad time. I'm glad you have the support of family and friends as I'm sure you are feeling quite overwhelmed and feeling lost.

I can identify with a lot of what you wrote with having to handle all the paperwork and official business when my Dad passed away nearly two years ago. It was hard enough dealing with the emotional pain of it. I still miss him every day and still cry at times.

Your little fairy is adorable and I do hope you find your way back to your art desk soon as art can be a wonderful healing therapy.

    You are in my thoughts...(((Hugs)))

  6. Dear Sue, you and your family will be in my thoughts as you go through this time of grief. I'm so very sorry to learn of your loss. Just like Wanda says above, those of us fortunate to have shared our lives (we're coming up to 52 yrs. next week) with a special person for so long, often wonder and fear what's in store for us as the years fleet by so quickly. May your memories help you in the coming months, and your beautiful art keep you busy when days are difficult.
Love this bright fairy - please let her be the beginning of you coming back to share your creativity with us each week.
    Hugs - Mary

  8. I'm so sorry to hear of your husband's passing. Yes, it is such a surreal time. I can't remember how I got through all of the details that are necessary. It seems like we block so much of it out as a defense mechanism. Take care of yourself. It is such a blessing to have family and friends to help us at such a time. We look forward to your bright art. Art is such a great help with healing. Hugs to you!

  9. DEar Sue, my heart is so heavy for you. I can't even believe you had the ability to join us here with your lovely little fairy from some time back. It is sweet and hope her smiling at you bring you some sweetness back. There can't be anything like losing one's spouse or child. So sorry again. Thank you for telling us. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. So glad you have such a good social network of family and freinds. Wehen I went through deep loss years ago I had non one to share that sorrow so it made it all the harder but having that and knowing people love you and are checking on you will help carry that load in the numbness you must surely be feeling presently. Hugs

Sue - I am SO SORRY for not reading this sooner. I'm just now reading about your husband! My thoughts & prayers are with you. My Dad's been gone over 10 years now & my Mom says she forgets that he's gone & gets up to fix supper for him. THEN it hits her "Dad's gone & not coming home." Dad IS home, Mom... She says she just has to cry every now & then. (My husband & I took over ALL the paperwork & had an auction for her to get rid of all the items she didn't need anymore.)

Please know that we're all thinking about you. I hope that things are a tad better but remember there is NO time span on grieving for a loved one. Take your time & REST when you can.
    A fan of yours,
    Grandma Nancy in central IL
