sunday sketches :: vacation
We just got back yesterday from a trip to Florida. We met my daughter, son-in-law, and the grandkids there. It was a really fun and relaxing week.
Here are a couple of doodles from my vacation travel sketchbook. We did lots of fun things: kayak through mangroves, walked the beach, ate LOTS of fresh seafood, went to a water park, but mostly lots of being lazy by the pool!
So, now I’m trying to settle back in to the real world. Unpacking is done. Laundry is clean. Fridge is restocked. I’m ready for Monday!
Posting these sketches for Sunday Sketches. Thanks to Alexandra for offering this fun co-op to visit!

sunday sketches :: grandma grace
I’ve been going through old family photos lately. Mostly trying to get them organized! But also looking for inspiration for drawings.
This is a drawing of my Grandma Grace. The original photo is below … in black and white … so I got to choose the colors myself!
As this photo was taken in the 50s, I decided to use a green paint (called Mint Julep) that I bought ages ago and never used! I think it sort of reflects the time period.
Posting this at Sunday Sketches. Be sure and stop by for a visit to see who else is participating!

look who’s here
Spring was cold here. Now we have rain. Everyone is a bit late showing up this year. Finally, some daylilies, a few wild flowers and one lone black-eyed Susan!
Hello old friends!
Posting to Paint Party Friday today. It’s been a while since I’ve had any paintings to share….have a great weekend!

creative tuesdays :: stars in a jar
Here is my illo for Creative Tuesdays.
Last week, I saw one firefly in the back yard. A very early firefly -- they don’t usually come until June. When I was small, we used to catch (and release!!) fireflies in the evenings. We were easily entertained!
So here is my little girl collecting stars in a jar!

sunday sketches :: blue-footed booby
I was searching for an interesting character to draw and voila! I found this guy.
Every reference photo I saw of this bird was great. Just by lifting their foot to walk, they look like they are dancing. Don’t you think?
So this is my painting for Sunday Sketches … a happy little dancing bird!

Another character popped up in my sketchbook.
I guess I’m dreaming of weather where I can wear tropical shirts!! I’m ready to be done with the chilly weather.

sunday sketches :: the talker
I’ve been absent again. I was out of town for Mother’s Day weekend, then my grandson’s birthday. I came home to weather that has been so beautiful. I had to spend some time outside working the gardens. I’ve planted flowers of every color. Now if they would just hurry up and grow so I can paint them!!
Finished this painting just in time for Sunday Sketches. I’m trying to work on some new characters…here is one I call “The Talker.”

sunday sketches :: luau
My little piggy is going to a luau … no pork at this party though … except for the dancers!!
Alexandra over at Sunday Sketches mentioned an online class a week or so ago. It sounded so great, I decided to sign up for it myself.
It’s called Expressive Picture Book Characters by Lynne Chapman. Lynne is just adorable and explains her lessons in such a great way. I can recommend this class to anyone!! It is really great.
This little piggy is a sketch that I did for the class.
