yupo kitty

Yupo is a waterproof paper.

It’s unpredictable.

What I saw when I painted on the paper was nothing like what happened when it dried.

In this cat painting, I painted the entire cat. It didn’t look like much … until it dried. The paint puddled in places I hadn’t anticipated. It looked so much more dramatic than what my brush had painted.

It’s just as easy to remove paint from the paper, as it is to paint it. To pull back white areas -- like the ears and the white catch-light in his eyes -- was so easy.

And, if it dries and looks awful, just add water, wipe it off and start again ☺

  3. I saw your pin on pinterest and had to come over IMMEDIATELY to tell you how much I loooooove this! I have never tried yupo paper, but it definitely sounds intriguing... Do you use a fixative to make it permanent?

    1. Truthfully, I don't know much about it yet! Still experimenting … i'll have to look into a permanent solution. For now, I'm just careful not to spill or get it wet :)

  7. Very cool!! Is this paper white or sheer like acrylic sheets? I recently bought some Duralar Film but haven't used it yet - wonder if it will produce similar effects. . .

    1. I'm not sure if there are the same or not, Michelle. The Yupo does have a little "tooth" to it as opposed to being a smooth film. There are different weights -- some are nearly transparent, some are "white." I ordered a sample variety pack from CheapJoes to experiment on.
