Why didn’t anyone warn me…

…that it’s impossible to have a kitten and a puppy in the house at the same time if you want to get anything done. It’s like having toddlers in the house…you have to watch them every minute.

Dobby keeps me busy all day playing with squeaker toys, throwing and chasing, walking her, letting her in and out and in and out. I especially like when I’m on a conference call and she decides it’s time to play with the squeaker toys!!

Then there’s the new kitten. We’ve named her Luna. She’s very sweet. But like all kittens, sleeps during the day and is up ALL night long.

We’ve had trouble with them in the same room…Dobby is a little aggressive and I’m not sure what she’ll do if ever she gets too close to Luna. I guess time will tell. Luna does have claws and a mean hiss…I think she can stand her ground.

For now….I have a few paintings that I did last weekend. It’s taken me several days to finish them with ink. Like I said, I don’t have much spare time anymore. When it gets too quiet, I always have to go investigate to see what is getting chewed up!! Usually a doggie toy, but occasionally a shoe or a cedar chest!

kitty kitty

Painting #3 is a cat. I’m not sure why I made it red. Going for something bold, I guess ☺

my other half

Here is the 2nd painting I did using the gouache and collage. It’s supposed to be my husband but resembles him only in that he might own a yellow shirt. ☺

self-portrait

I tried making one large painting – the collage was on a full sheet of watercolor paper. But I was too intimidated, so I cut it into 4 pieces.

First I tried using watercolor, but didn’t get the coverage I wanted. I was hoping some of the background to show through. But only a little. When that didn’t work, I moved to gouache.

Gouache is somewhere between watercolor and acrylics…well, to me it seems that way. Here’s the first painting that emerged from the collage.

I like it. It’s not exactly what I expected but it was fun.

something different

I keep scraps of paper and old mail thinking that “someday” I’m going to make a collage. So….here’s what happened.

I took an old failed watercolor and covered it up with paper and ink stamps.

Now what to do….??

this week

Today is catch up day. Laundry, cleaning, errands and yes, a little time in the studio.

This week…

We went to week #3 of puppy school. We have “sit” figured out. Working on lay “down.” Also a bit of “leave it” which is handy on walks when there is something stinky to be investigated. “Leave it” is a great command!!

Tuesday I went to water aerobics. I’ve missed a few due to work and still having a sore elbow that is to be rested.

Wednesday and Thursday I spent long hours at the computer. I can say that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel…and it’s not the train.

I’ve been visiting the local cat clinic every Friday just to pet and cuddle the kittens. I miss the purr of a soft kitty. I knew eventually I would find the “one” and this week it happened. I get to bring home a new little kitty next week. She has to get fixed first. I’m so excited. I hope she likes it here at our house.

I wonder how long it takes for a dog and a cat to be “friends”?? I hope not too long… I’m open to suggestions on how to make our “blended” family work ☺

graph paper doodle

Still putting in extra hours at work. So by the end of the day, I got nothing much left…except a graph paper doodle.

august

Today is the first day I’ve been in the studio this month. I was starting to go through withdrawal!!

So far, this is all I’ve accomplished today. Well, that and two loads of laundry. ☺

blackbirds

Busy weekend….didn’t have time to do much of anything art related. Just played a little with homemade stamps.

Work is going to be crazy busy this week so I’ve psyched myself up for some overtime. So if you don’t hear from me much this week, you’ll know that's why.
