sunday sketches :: end of summer blues

I was feeling nostalgic about summer coming to an end. I remember those back to school days. That ‘where did the summer go?’ feeling.

Those of you with kids still at home are probably whooping and hollering for joy!! I remember those feelings, too!

Yesterday was exciting for me. I was the featured illustrator on Kathy Temean’s Writing and Illustrating blog. Check it out when you have time.

Also, I see that today’s post is a call for illustrations. If you are thinking of illustrating (or writing) children’s books, head over there for info and maybe submit some work for a critique. It's a great opportunity to put yourself out there!

Posting this to Sunday Sketches -- hello to Alexandra in England!

  3. I love this! The way the whole drawing is framed by the shape of a house is brilliant.

  4. Love this illustration, it shows so well the feelings I had as a child when the summer holidays were over. Even today I recognize myself in it :-) Congrats on your feature! I loved reading about how you make your illustrations and how you plan your day.I hope an agent reads it and picks you up, you deserve it, you have a great style and your illustrations are so expressive!

  5. I love your illustration this week, Sue! It has captured his mood perfectly!

What a great, in-depth article about you too. Your illustrations are truly wonderful and I had to giggle out loud at the one with the lady flying through the air behind the doggy on the leash. I hope some agent snaps you up fast.

Have a creative and inspired week. :)

  6. Such a cute sketch, and so appropriate for end of summer blues, including the color of the house. I think we can all remember the let down as kids, when it was time to back to school.

  8. Such an expressive piece of art. It brings back memories. And I love the shadows under each siding board on the house! All of the shading really brings out the feeling of a summer sun shining down. I'm off to read about you!

  9. I loved the article on you. You were very patient to answer their questions even when they asked the same ones several times, lol. My hubby and I drove through western Arkansas a few years ago when traveling down to Texas. It is so beautiful! Keep up the good work. I like your idea of giving myself assignments. I just have to DO IT! :) You're an inspiration!

  12. What a gorgeous illustration and I can totally relate to that feeling especially as Scottish summer as usual was entirely hit and miss. The mornings are already getting darker when we're up to walk the dogs early and I've got that sense of dread of the winter and those short days and lack of daylight!
thanks for the links - congrats on being featured - I'll go have a look. x
