Yesterday, I baked doggie treats.
And, just for the record, I DID try one. They taste pretty bland – no sugar – but the dog really likes them.
But then, she likes to eat grass and rocks and other very disgusting things so she’s not a very good judge on what tastes good.
The recipe says that it makes “30 large treats.” I actually made smaller bite-sized treats, so it made like a million or so. We have enough to last a while, that’s for sure!
If you’re interested, here’s the recipe I used:
• Mix 2 cups of whole wheat flour and 1 Tablespoon of baking powder in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup peanut butter (sugar free…if you can get it) with 1 cup skim milk.
• Add the wet mix to the dry mix. Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut into shapes.
• Bake on a greased baking sheet for about 20 minutes at 375 degrees.
• Store treats in an airtight container.
Bone appetite!

If I made this recipe and sprinkled sugar on top my boys would think they were delicious!
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely a perk of making your own pet treats, that you know they are good for you, too! Echoing Michellem, if I sprinkled sugar on them *I* would probably think they were delicious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good doggie mommy you are! ;)
ReplyDeleteThink I'm going to have to give these a bake...thanks for adding the recipe, there could be one very happy lurcher here :-)
