One more time….here are my flower doodles from A to Z.
If you are a new visitor to my blog, take a look at this video I found late last year. It has to do with 30-day challenges. It has been a tremendous boost for me!
So far I’ve:
• sketched out some thumbnails for a story I have rattling around in my head
• participated in a 29 faces challenge
• painted a flower a day
My next challenge involves something that will take a little longer…so I probably won’t be posting every day. I do hope you will stop in now and again and check my progress.

garden
I have a few more days left this month to finish my “flowers every day” challenge that I set for myself.
Today, I drew another garden similar to the one used for “X” day. I wanted to show it step by step, but I’m horrible about stopping and taking pictures!! I get so involved and then it’s too late!!
To start, I added drops of paint onto a watercolor paper. Using a straw, I blew on the paint to splatter it up and out.
Then you let it dry and start filling in the holes.
I like how it turned out. Very bright and bold!

yarrow
Not sure if I like this one or not. I don’t like the colors but it was fun drawing all the tiny, little flowers!!
Can’t believe this month is nearly over!! Tomorrow is “Z”…bet you can guess what my flower will be!

x....???
There is no such thing as a flower that starts with an “X”….well, not that I found anyway ☺
I thought about making one up!!
Instead I offer up a quote about flowers and hope that will work.

water lily
Today I’m dreaming of warmer weather.
I took this picture last summer when I visited the Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina. It’s a beautiful place inside, but the gardens were fabulous!!

violet
My grandma always had violets in her house. I never could keep them alive. Maybe someday I’ll try again.

Another flower that is here and gone so fast. But I love to see them, if only briefly, in my garden.

queen anne's lace
This was an experiment.
I dropped green paint onto my paper and used a straw to blow the paint around.
It may not be pretty, but it was fun!!

poppy
I used a photo for reference on this one that I had taken in my backyard a few years ago.
I love the red poppy with the purple salvia in the background.

orchid
The model for today’s flower is a silk orchid I keep in my bedroom. I don’t have a live one. Maybe someday I’ll get one…I hear they require lots of pampering.
I have lots of houseplants but none of them need pampering. I just water them. That’s it.

nasturtium
I heard that these flowers are nice to add to salads for a pop of color. I planted them in the herb garden last year but never got round to adding them to a salad.

marigold
I like to plant marigolds in my garden. Some people don’t like the smell of marigolds but I love their bold, bright colors.

kale
Technically not a flower but still pretty. Where I live, we plant ornamental kale in the fall and enjoy the color all winter.
I have tulips coming up and buds starting to peek out on the trees. I do believe spring is finally coming!!

iris
I have some iris in my garden. The thing I don’t like about iris is that they are such short bloomers…here and gone in about 2 weeks. Then I have to wait a whole year to see them again.

hollyhocks
I love hollyhocks. I have several different colors that I grow in my garden. They bloom all summer…can’t wait to see them again this year.

F is for Foxglove.
I know I don’t normally show photos, but here is one I couldn’t resist sharing. Taken last year…this is my grandson demonstrating foxglove eyeballs!!

english bulls-eye
I couldn’t think of a flower that started with “E” so I googled it.
What I normally call a “Black-Eyed Susan” is also called an “English Bulls-Eye.”
Of course, now that I’ve finished this one, I’ll think of a dozen flowers that begin with an E.

bird of paradise
Five years ago, I went to Hawaii with a friend of mine. They sell seeds at the airport for Hawaiian flowers, so I bought myself some souvenirs: bird of paradise seeds, white ginger seeds and a cutting for yellow plumeria.
The plumeria bloomed about 2 summers ago and smelled heavenly!! But it didn’t bloom last summer. I was so disappointed.
I’ve yet to see blooms on the other two plants. Here is a picture from the package of the Bird of Paradise. It has started sprouting new growth…so maybe this year I’ll see some flowers!!

aster
Here is my first flower. I made a list of flowers to draw and then decided to work alphabetically ☺
So A is for Aster.
