hot and cold

One more sketch for the “opposites” theme over at Sketchbook Challenge. It’s been a fun theme. Can’t wait to see what they are cooking up for next month.

I read in Kelli’s post about having different sketchbooks for different things. I generally have at least three sketchbooks going at the same time. Does anyone else do this, too?

I always have one that is just for rough ideas or notes. It’s a big, fat, el cheapo drawing pad that I fill up with pencil sketches. It also tends to get filled with To Do lists and phone numbers and web addresses in the margins. Oh, well.

From this rough sketchbook, I pick and choose which drawings to take to the next level. Some will turn into larger paintings or more refined drawings.

I’ve been using loose papers that I cut to 5x7 for the Sketchbook Challenge. I use watercolor paper that I bound into books (one for each month) for my Sketch Diary.

Plus I have one that I take when I travel. So I guess I’m either very organized or really anal … depending on your view!!

simple shapes

Just a sketch of simple shapes.

I’ve been putting in lots of hours at work lately. Sometimes I just don’t have anything creative left in me at the end of the day.

Hoping your day was better than mine. Sigh.

hollyhocks

Spent some time browsing through photos on my computer and came across some hollyhocks from last year’s garden.
I miss flowers. And Spring. And green in general.

My yard is just brown now. Mud and brown grass.

We’ve been teased with a couple days of nice weather but it will be weeks before the ground is dry enough to work with. Already, I’m planning my garden … well, in my head anyway.

sketch diary

The weekend is here! Thank goodness! The weather reports all say we are in for a warm up. And it’s about time. I have got to get out of this house for a while tomorrow. I’m starting to get a little stir crazy, you know?

I couple of doodles from my sketch diary.

talking about the weather

There is much talk (and chirping) about when it’s going to stop snowing here. The prediction was 8 inches. So far we are somewhere between 18 and 24 … depending on where you live in the area.

If you are living up North, this is nothing. For those of us in northwest Arkansas, this has shut us down. No school. No meetings. Very few businesses are open.

The downside of working at home … no snow days for me. It’s a curse and a blessing.

They’ve promised warmer weather on Saturday. Fingers crossed!!

Chair and Plant #2

This month’s theme at the Sketchbook Challenge is “opposites.” After reading the kick-off post, I took some time and created a list of opposites before I made any sketches. I came up with dozens of word combinations. Really a good suggestion to help get the ideas flowing.

Here is another sketch of a chair similar to this post. It has several opposites going on. Complicated texture/simple lines. Red/green colors.

This is going to be a fun theme this month.

where have i been?

Well, when I wasn’t working, I was sleeping. I started catching a cold last weekend and just felt like sleeping. Then we got more snow and it just felt like a good time to hibernate. Just me and Abby cat.

But I’m back now. Still sniffling a little but I’ve certainly caught up on my sleep!
