red rose and friends

I’m working on a series of 5x7 flower paintings.

I’m contemplating opening an etsy shop. Any advice? I REALLY want to know. What has been your experience in selling your artwork? Not just on etsy but anywhere.

Would you buy original paintings? Or prints? Greeting cards? None of the above?

Thanks for your help and advice, friends!

Happy Paint Party Friday.

  1. Love your flower painting. Sorry, can't help you with the Etsy shop. I think most people want to buy things that are not too expensive, so perhaps prints and cards would be better. Hugs, Valerie

  2. This is lovely! As for Etsy, I did/do have a shop but I've been letting it run out of stock as I haven't really had a lot of luck with it ever since they opened their doors to the mass produced stock from the far east - it's less unique one off hand made stuff now which is a shame. I do still shop on it a lot as you can find wonderful things but more for jewellery than art, I think. Artfinder is a great website though. I joined in March and have had several sales from it. They really help to market you on social media as well. It might be worth a try? Valerie is right re selling prints on Etsy rather than original art, so that could be worthwhile as well.

    1. I wondered about Artfinder...good info, Thanks. Yes, I think the hard part for me will be marketing myself. I'm not good at that.

  5. Lovely flower painting. I don't sell via what although a lot of artists do. I mostly sell through galleries but of course you give up a chunk of profit in comission. I would perhaps give etsy a go if I were you it seems quite straight forward to set up a shop.

  8. SWOON! I wasn't expecting flowers in November, thanks! I agree with what everyone has said about Etsy. It's pretty straightforward to set up. I haven't had many sales but that's probably because I'm lazy and don't market myself very much. Give it a go. What have you got to lose?

    1. True!! I may give it a go. It's the marketing part that I find hard to do, too.

  9. I love your work and I'm so surprised you don't have a shop already..or sell to local gift shops...your work is so desirable...especially for cat people with all your fun characters!!

    1. We have a couple of local art shops. I guess I'm just afraid of the rejection if they say NO!! (sigh)

  10. Love these flowers. I agree with Nic. When etsy was all hand made sales were better for everyone. What ever online place you go to be sure to accept credit cards.
    Have a great Sunday
