my apologies to...

…Joan MirĂ³

I have always enjoyed the work of Joan MirĂ³…it’s so playful.

This painting was really fun to paint using his style. It is based on a painting called “The Singing Fish.”

I think it’s my favorite of all.

my apologies to...

…Roy Lichtenstein

This little painting is based on one titled “Thinking of Him.”

I’m starting to wind down on this theme. I’ve run out of ideas. For now.

Actually, I have many of these little cat paintings that I have filed away in the “Ugh” folder…you’ll never see them, they are pretty awful!

my apologies to...

…Rene Magritte

Ok, this drawing was fun to do.

Based on Magritte’s “Son of Man,” I knew that I had to keep the bowler hat but that would hide the cat’s ears. So all I kept from the cat was the nose and whiskers.

On my first attempt, I changed the apple to a ball but then I thought “hmm, cats aren’t that crazy about balls. Not like dogs are anyway.” So….after giving it some thought, voila…a ball of yarn!

Hope everyone has/had a wonderful Friday. The weather has finally turned a bit chilly here so I’m planning on hibernating in the studio! So many ideas, so little time!

…Edgar Degas

You have to admit, cats are quite nimble on their feet! I’m sure they would be excellent ballerinas if they would only practice a bit more.

…Henri Matisse

I couldn’t resist this one….it was just too easy to see a cat in this pose!!

…Amedeo Modigliani

My grandson came to visit over the weekend. I did some painting…but mostly on pumpkins!!

I did have time to squeeze in one cat though. So here is Cat in Large Hat.

…Salvador Dali

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! I plan to take in some of this beautiful fall weather before it’s all gone!

i remember...

This little doodle is a pic of where I used to store all my valuables when I was a child. I glued all sorts of pasta on the lid until it was just right!

I kept sparkly rocks, bird feathers, ball-point pens, rings and bracelets, keys, Cracker Jack toys, postcards, and many other treasures in it. Every beautiful thing I owned would fit in that box.

Now my “cigar box” has grown to the size of a small room in my house. All my favorite things are in this box...but now I call it a studio. I still keep my favorite things in there. Only now my treasures are paints, brushes, paper and pens.

burger & fries

Well, it’s the end of another weekend. The days just blend one into another. That’s how it goes.

I always look forward to Saturdays though. Date night for my husband and I. We take turns picking where we will eat out…this week it was my turn and I was just hungry for a big juicy burger!

I did make up for it tonight. I fixed Ginger-Lime fish and fresh zucchini from the garden. Very low fat!

Now it’s time to get ready for bed and start the week all over again. Six o’clock comes awful early!!

…Grant Wood

I replaced the pitchfork with something more cat-like…a litter scoop.

If only cats could use the scoop themselves. I have that wish every morning.

my apologies to...

…Marc Chagall

This is based on Chagall’s painting “The Promenade.”

The original shows Chagall and his wife, Bella, who is floating in the air. I think it’s supposed to symbolize their love…that floating/flying feeling that you only get from true love!

In my painting, love is a big, bright, pink, floating cat.

frida cat

I was out of town last weekend. I had time for a little sketching…but mostly eating and visiting!

Here is Frida…based on a photo by Nickolas Muray. I really love Frida’s paintings…but who doesn’t?

Now I’m off to catch up and see what everyone else has been up to the past few days!

…Alexej von Jawlensky

I found this picture of Schokko with Wide Brimmed Hat and thought she already looked very cat-like!

All she needed was a cute little nose and some whiskers!

my apologies to...

After last month’s challenge of 29 Faces in 29 Days, I thought I’d slow it down some. I can’t keep up with the pace of posting everyday!! It was a super fun challenge and I met some artists that are so, so talented!! But now it’s time for something different.

Some time ago, I did a few watercolors of cats in famous paintings.

This one, I call portrait of the cat Sylvia based on “Portrait of the Journalist Sylvia von Harden” by Otto Dix.

And this one might look more familiar…meow mix sur l’herbe based on “Luncheon on the Grass” by Edouard Manet.

I’ve been working on a continuation of the series. My first thought was to call the series “Cats in Art” or something like that. But as I am working on the rough drawings, I think it would be best to call the series “My apologies to…” because some of them are really bad.

Really, REALLY bad!!

But I’m having fun…so what the heck. Here is my first attempt. It is based very loosely on Woman with Red Beret by Pablo Picasso.
