Well, here it is! Face #29….woohoo! Thank you to Ayala Art for sponsoring this fun challenge.

I’ll be back in a day or two with something new. I’ve been making sketches…now time to paint!

Can’t believe we are at the end of September already. I didn’t think I’d be able to keep up with a face a day!

I have company coming this weekend. I will make time to draw one more face to finish up this challenge! Whew!

Here are faces #26 and #27. I missed yesterday’s post as I wasn’t feeling well. Nothing serious…just the usual Fall crud (cough, sinus headache, etc.)

I always LOVE when Fall comes…the colors, the cooler weather, rain…then come the Fall allergies and I’m ready to move on to Winter ☺

Anyway, here are a couple of big cat faces. Only a few more to go for the Challenge. See you tomorrow!

Everyone who knows me, knows that I’m sort of a cat person. Sort of.

But, I have met several dogs in my lifetime that I could call friends. Here are a few…

One more face with a bird theme. I will admit that this is not a “new” face….I was cleaning in the studio and came across this duck. It was for an assignment when I was in college.

We had to take an inanimate object and find a face. In case you can’t tell, this is actually grass clippers…well, the handle of the clippers anyway. Turn them upside down and, voila, a duck! It was created with markers and colored pencil. I remember it took many, many hours to create.

I find all sorts of treasures when I clean that studio!! I should do it more often.

Ooops, I didn’t post yesterday. I tried to stay away from the computer so I could get stuff done! I tend to get sidetracked if I sit down at the computer. You know how that goes, right?

Here are two new faces….I decided to do something non-human for a change.

Here is another version of yesterday’s painting. I cropped in a bit more. I like the background of this one….it’s more true to the light in the photo.

This is based on an old black and white photo of my mother and me.

In the photo, she is 20 years old or so. A new mom. I always thought she had a look on her face like “what was I thinking?? Me? With a baby?” But maybe I’m just thinking about how I felt those first few months as a new mom.

I’m not sure I like how this painting turned out. I got the background way too dark. I may give this one another try.

Whew! Halfway through the 29 Faces challenge.

If it weren’t for my day job, I would get a lot more art done! Although I shouldn’t complain because my project this week has been working on an animation. Those are always fun.

Today is supposed to be another rainy day (yay!!) so I will stay in and work play in the studio all day.

I had to include this face in this month’s challenge.

I was working in the studio and looked up to see him staring down at me. He is a piece that I did several years ago in a class I took in college. I call him Insomnia Guy and he’s one of my favorites.

On those nights when I can’t sleep, I look up at him hanging on the wall and imagine he’s a mirror of how I look!

Today’s face is another technique from Carla Sonheim’s fun book, “Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists.” I used this technique before if you want to take a look here.

I should have taken a picture of the ink BEFORE I added the watercolor. I never remember until I’m nearly done.

This is face #12 of 29 for the challenge. Also known as “not from around here.”

This is a painting that I did from an old black and white photo of my Grandpa and me. Since it was black and white, I had to guess at the colors.

My grandpa actually had on a dark plaid shirt that was probably red. I thought that would stand out too much, so I gave him a white shirt.

Also, the car may or may not have been blue. I did some research on car colors for that time period and this blue color was very popular.

Today’s face idea came from a lab in Carla Sonheim’s book, “Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists.” There is one exercise called Picasso Dogs…but I switched it up a bit and used a person’s face instead.

I drew these two little faces in my sketchbook. I decided to stop right here. I thought they were kind of cute and didn’t want to mess them up with the wrong hairstyle!

Just to switch things up, I tried a little doodle using my “wrong” hand.

It was supposed to be Elvis. Can you tell?

It’s Friday!! Yay! I survived a week of posting everyday! That wasn’t so hard.

Here is face #5. She sort of reminds me of a 1940’s movie star. I think it’s the hair.

Also, I did some doodling for the Sketchbook Challenge. This month the theme is “Patterns.” I love doing patterns! There are ideas everywhere!

Well, September is here (really…September already??!! Where has the year gone??) and I’m going to participate in the 29 Faces in September challenge. There I said it. Two days in a row now. So I’m really committed!

I thought I’d start with a self-portrait. My husband says it looks like me…only younger. Hmmmm…what does that mean? Do I really look like some old hag?

I’m excited to see what everyone else posts this month.
