more doodles

Well, January is winding down. I’ve really enjoyed this month’s theme at the Sketchbook Challenge.

Wonder what the theme will be for next month??

Can’t wait to see.

phone conversation doodle

Part of my job involves sitting in on conference calls with clients. Some days, I’m on calls for 2 or 3 hours.

Yeah, that’s the least favorite thing about my job.

In order to stay focused, this is what I’m doing. Doodling really helps me listen. Occasionally, I “step away” from the doodle to write down a specific note for the meeting or project.

But then I’m back to my doodle. It helps take the pain out of that part of my job. A little.

things that are rectangular…sort of

This started out as an all things rectangular doodle but sort of evolved.

I bought some new sketchbooks this year for ink drawing. The paper is perfect for ink and thick enough to handle markers with no bleeding through to the back side. I haven’t tried it yet with watercolor. I think it might really buckle up.

The sketchbooks are larger than I normally use so at first I was intimidated. You know, that whole agony of having a blank page just staring at you.

Only now it's a much larger blank page staring.

Anyway…after filling a few pages, I’m having fun. So much to doodle, so little time.

dreaming of flowers

I haven’t painted any flowers in a while. Seemed like a good idea as January, winter, and the sad state of my flower gardens are starting to get to me.

We’ve had a pretty mild winter. So far. But as I look out the window, all I see is dormant beige-brown grass and leafless trees. Ugh.

So I’m just dreaming about pretty flowers for now.

doodles

Perfect weekend. Got chores out of the way early so I had time to doodle, paint and take in a movie. Hope yours was good, too.
Here are some doodles from my sketchbook..this month’s theme over at Sketchbook Challenge.

little houses

Happy Friday!

I’m looking forward to a nice long three-day weekend. It’s cold outside so I’m going to hibernate!

Stay warm…

things in the cupboard

Just a peek in my sketchbook. This week I gave myself a theme…things in the cupboard.

On one hand, this was fun…really digging in and drawing in great detail.

On the other hand, it just showed me that it’s time for some early spring cleaning!!

I was going to draw the “junk drawer” but egad, what a mess! Does everyone have a “junk drawer” in their house? Or is it just me? I hope it’s not just me!

journal 2011

Last year, I worked on a project that I finally pulled together over the weekend.

I decided to keep a journal—one picture per day—for one whole year.

It was a lot of work. But like most things where hard work is involved, the results are so nice! I had fun looking back at 2011.

My binding is not so good. This was my first attempt. But that’s something I can fix another time.

Here are a few pages that were my favorites.

I decided not to do it again this year. What will I do with all that spare time?

cats

I tried my hand at acrylics again. It’s just so hard for me. I don’t know why.

And why do I always end up with paint on my arms and on my pants and in my hair? What am I doing wrong?

These three cats are works in progress. I learned a little trick from a friend…draw the image (very slowly) with a sharpie using your non-dominant hand. Then use your dominant hand to paint. I sort of like the squiggly outlines I got when I drew with my left hand.

things i ate over the holidays

Well, the heading says it all. The border represents the 100+ cookies I ate. I lost count.

Sigh.

A new year, a fresh start…hopefully less sweets for a while.
