hitting the road

No, I’m not doing a bicycle trip. I wish. I have to go out of town this week for work. Five days of sitting in a classroom learning new software. “Yippee,” she said with sarcasm.

The up side is that I’ll get to visit with family and friends. That part I’m looking forward to.

the weekend

Saturday a.m. – Headed downtown for some flea marketing and general browsing. Several new shops opened in the past few months and I just HAD to see them. Came home with a new purse (from the local fair trade outlet) and some great ideas for projects!

Saturday afternoon – Worked in the yard. Pulled weeds. Spread compost. Split perennials. Wore shorts…it was hot outside!

Saturday p.m. – Dinner out. I love date night.

Sunday a.m. – Ugh. I overdid it yesterday in the yard. My whole body aches. I was up until 3 a.m. Not sure why. The morning was a waste.

Sunday p.m. – Painted a bit. Watched some basketball on TV. I hate not feeling well on the weekends. Why can’t I feel bad on a workday? ☺

Rainy spring day. Everything is greening up so nice. No sunflowers yet, of course.

making faces...the guys

Well, the girls were lots of fun…so I thought I’d give it a try with some manly faces.

I like to start with the eyes. Then I try to line up the cheeks and make a face.

The chin is fun, too, especially if it doesn’t quite line up with the rest of the face.

After I have my drawing, I put away the cut-up magazine faces and add the paint. I try not to let the color in the photos influence how the paint should be.

Next…kids. Or maybe animals???

Sorry for my absence lately. It’s spring break week, so I’ve been visiting with my grandson.

What’s your favorite flower?

I love roses. Yellow ones.

No, wait. Poppies. Yeah. Poppies.

Morning Glory…they’re so pretty. Yeah. Morning Glory.

Daylillies. Yeah, for sure.

No, I don’t have a favorite. That would be like picking my favorite color. Or favorite food.

Impossible to do.

The tulips in my garden will be blooming in another week or so.

This painting is from a photograph of some flowers I got for my birthday last year. They were such a delicate pink color…I think I’ve captured it in the painting.

I worked in the yard yesterday removing the remnants of last year’s garden. We have lots of things sprouting up…daisies, lilies, iris, hosta, lily of the valley, lots of herbs, and the tulips.

Can’t wait til things start blooming!

Every year I go crazy and take TONS of photos. You’d think I never saw a flower in my life or something. Winter does that to me!

Instead, I’m going car shopping today. I dread it. I really do. But it’s time for a new one. Sigh.

I started on this painting soon after I got back from Florida last month. I love sitting by the ocean.

I’m not really into getting a tan. I just like to listen to the ocean. And I like sinking my toes into the sand.
