playing with pens

Just something I did while listening to some tunes. Attempted to see how much detail and texture I can put in a small drawing.

This was a photo from a garden magazine … just so you don’t think this is in my backyard or anything!

masterpiece

Here is my second attempt at bringing cats into some of my favorite paintings.

I saw the original painting by Otto Dix once when I was in Paris. It’s a strangely, disturbing image and I really love it!

Here’s my interpretation of “portrait of the cat Sylvia.” I decided to go for the orange tabby dress instead of checkered red & black.

masterpiece

Ok, so I had this brilliant idea to replicate some of my favorite masterpiece paintings except make a cat the focal point. I have this thing for cats, you know.

Anyway, here is my first attempt.

I call it “meow mix sur l’herbe.” It was a hard one to start with. The original (which you can view here) is such a strong painting because of the dark colors of the background. That was tough for me to try and do with watercolors. Well, with my palette and style anyway.

I have a few more that I’m working on. So, don’t laugh. Ok?

stuff i collect

I’ve been dying to get out and do some sketching and painting in my yard what with all the flowers blooming out there. But man, it’s been so windy!! Plus there’s that Work thing that keeps getting in the way!

The other night while watching TV, I did this sketch of a mini building I grabbed from the shelf.

I collect little buildings when I go on vacation. This one was from France. I have a little sandcastle from Florida and a pub from England. I’ll draw those another day.

I’m finally starting to get caught up at work and have a couple of drawing projects going on in my head. Hope I have time to put them on paper this weekend.

keeping it simple

I finally had some time for playing around in the studio.

I bought these little birdhouses at a flea market. They’re small … only about 3 inches tall .. for really small birds, I guess.

I decided to use only a few colors. I generally use a palette that holds 8 colors but today I limited myself to 4. I love working with watercolor. It’s so versatile.
