alarm cat--new trick

You know, I don’t think I’ve mentioned my Alarm Cat in this blog. I used to have another blog and I think I mentioned it there.

We have two Alarm Cats at our house. Abby has been with me for over 16 years. Lucky has lived with us for about 5 years.

What’s an Alarm Cat? Well, here’s a checklist I’ve come up with:

  • Does the cat wake you up 5 minutes before your alarm clock is about to sound?
  • Does he like to howl loudly in the morning that his food bowl is empty?
  • Does the Alarm Cat climb over you while you sleep in an attempt to get you out of bed?
  • Does she knock things off the nightstand or bat them around in an attempt to annoy you? Items to include, but not limited to: cough drops, cough drop wrappers, eye glasses, water bottles and small lamps.
  • Does the cat like to be on your pillow so it can purr in your face?
  • Does she like to tickle you with her whiskers?
  • Does the cat like to sit on your chest with its entire 15 pounds of bulk constricting your breathing?
Yes? Well, you, my friend, have an Alarm Cat!

Abby has added a new trick to her repertoire. She has learned that if I open my eye(s), I will get up. So she now has started to lick my eyelids! Sand paper tongue on your eyelids will wake you up in a hurry. Take my word for it!

I love her dearly. Except on weekends when she won’t let me sleep in!!

highly prized--just a few things

A sketch of a few things that make me happy.

We had snow this week, just a little. And freezing cold temperatures, brrrrr. I can’t decide if I’m going to spend the weekend drawing and painting or hibernating under a warm blanket. If I can find a way to do both … hmmm.

sketch diary

I’ve decided to try and keep a sketch diary this year.
I tried it last year but once I get behind, I get discouraged and give up. I’m going to try and do better this year.

Lately, I’ve been having some really strange dreams. I tried to sketch one of those out, too.

list it tuesday--the finale

Here’s my contribution to List It Tuesday. I’m a big list maker but you would be bored out of your mind if I shared my usual lists. My lists tend to be work related To Do stuff mostly.

For this one I used a scrap piece of watercolor paper. Let nothing go to waste!

highly prized--sense of humor

I’ve been doodling some the past week for the Sketchbook Challenge. The theme for January is “Highly Prized.” My choices were many, so I decided to start with one…my sense of humor.

Below is a story of my grandson, my daughter and me.

déjà vu

The past week, I’ve been working like a mad man on a project for work. December was a breeze…everyone was either taking off for the holidays or getting ready to take some time off…so the pace was nice and slow. Now that the new year is here, well, everyone has decided to kick it up a notch! Needless to say, my time to play has been limited. Ugh.

Last weekend, I decided it was time to reorganize my art room. I’m fortunate that I have an entire room dedicated to art stuff.

The good thing is that I don’t have to clean up and put supplies away every time I work on something. The bad thing is that I don’t have to clean up and put things away. EVER!

Well, it got to be too much and was time to purge and let go of some stuff. It looks amazing in there now. If only I had the time to spend in there….

I did find time to make a little sketch for Illustration Friday. The theme this week is déjà vu. This is what came to my mind. Every morning I must have my latte. I definitely get that feeling that I’ve had that experience before because, well, I have.

they draw & cook

Ok. I know I’ve mentioned this before but I just love this site: They Draw & Cook. It combines two of my favorite things in the whole world!!

Check out my recipe that was posted today. Seriously, it is yummy even if it sounds a little bizarre!

happy new year

Happy new year to everyone!! I’m enjoying the last two days of my vacation. Hanging out with my grandson has been a real blast. When he leaves tomorrow, I won’t know what to do with all my spare time. Ha, yeah, I will. But I’ll sure miss having him around.

I’m ready to jump in to the Sketchbook Challenge. The theme for January is
:: Highly Prized::

Wow…the ideas are really flowing already.

I think I may make my sketches on single sheets for now and bind them later. I saw this post and thought it was an excellent idea.

One last thing.

I don’t know how those of you with small children around all the time find time to do anything!! It’s been a long time since my daughter was small and I’ve forgotten how much of the day is dedicated to building legos and watching Disney channel. I am now caught up on my Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place.
