Sorry I’ve been such a blog slacker this month. I have no excuse.
Here are some doodles from my Sketch Diary to sum up the month. I scanned these while my husband handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters.
I’m sort of bah-humbug when it comes to Halloween…he LOVES it!! He makes such nice comments about everyone’s costumes!! I keep hearing lots of “thanks Mister” from the entry hallway.
Anyway…see you in November!

end of summer
I spent the weekend painting…but
not on paper. I found the perfect table for my entry hallway at a local flea
market. It was painted a glossy black but I needed it to be matte white.
Then I did some much needed
chores around the house. Which left little time for doing fun stuff in the studio.
Sigh.
Cleaned out some folders on
my desktop and found these leftover summer sketches.
Happy Monday!

workshop pics
I finally had a chance to scan some pics from the workshop I took last weekend.
This first painting was really fun to do. I must admit, it took every fiber of my being NOT to add some ink to it! You know how I LOVE adding ink to everything!
The painting below is a do-over. The one I did in the workshop…well, it didn’t turn out. Let’s just leave it at that.
When I got home, I attempted the technique again. First you do an underpainting with lots of texture and patterns. I even added some collage.
Then you mask out areas with cut up poster board and tape. The next step is to paint over the whole painting with another color. Acrylic is good to use but watercolor works, too.
After you remove the mask, you go back and add in some marks on top of the dark color to sort of pull it all together.
I’m still not sure about this one. I will definitely play around with this technique some more.

perfect weekend
I went to a watercolor
workshop yesterday. More details later this week.
Today I did chores outside. Then
some doodling this afternoon and evening.
It was really hot today.
Tomorrow it’s supposed to be nice, too. Then we’re in for a cool down. Since
all the flowers will freeze over the next few days, we started yanking them up
today. So sad because with the cooler weather, everything has been looking so
bright and colorful!
The front garden was full of
vinca. I planted a few and then they just sort of expanded and then next thing
I knew, I had PINK everywhere.

two by two
I spent last Saturday at a painting workshop. We used acrylics. I had a really hard time working with acrylics! I came home with 4 paintings. However, 3 of them need to be reworked. Well, probably all 4 should be reworked!!
I think I’ll stick with watercolor.

my view
The theme this month over at the Sketchbook Challenge is “view”…so I present a doodle of “things on my desk.”
When it’s sunny outside, I have to keep the blinds closed so that I don’t get a bad computer glare. Otherwise, I would have a nice view of the front garden and birds at the feeder. But that’s a doodle for a different day.
