list it tuesday

My contribution to Artsyville’s List It Tuesday topic. My “list” consists of five ingredients that taste yummy when combined!
  • Just peel the orange(s), slice them in circles or bite-sized pieces.
  • Warm the honey for a bit to thin it. Stir in the cinnamon and five-spice powder. Pour this over the oranges.
  • Sprinkle the ginger on top.

flea market treasure...fishing buddies

Cats. I can never resist buying a cat of any kind. I’m a sucker for stuff like this. What can I say?

flea market treasure...black bird with bells

My favorite thing to do is making doodles in my sketchbook. My second favorite thing would have to be going to flea markets in search of treasures!!

Over the weekend, I spent some time drawing some of my favorite finds. This one I picked up last month. I liked the autumn colors of the bells. Right now it’s the centerpiece on the kitchen table. Isn’t it just lovely?

picnic

Sometimes when I’m having trouble coming up with new drawing ideas or I’m just stuck indoors without any interesting things to draw, I skim through magazines and sketch photos.

This was a delicious little picnic…bread and wine and cheese…that’s about all you need for a picnic. Except maybe some fried chicken. And chocolate cake. A little potato salad. Well, that’s another drawing for another day.

You can tell I have food on the brain today. I’m ready for thanksgiving dinner. Yum!

humpty dumpty

Another doodle from a photograph I took in Eureka Springs. When I first saw Humpty Dumpty on a ledge on Spring Street…well, I thought he was kind of creepy! But when I got home and read about it, I had a new respect for him.

Humpty is 1,480 pounds of white oak carved by artist Keith Gregory.  Wow…now that’s one big honkin’ egg!

list it tuesday

One of my fav bloggers started a new feature on her blog last month. List It Tuesday. It’s very clever. Artsyville posts a handwritten list every Tuesday.

I’ve wanted to play along but have had too many other projects going on. Plus all my lists are really boring. I’m a list maker for sure but mine are mainly To Do lists. I like that sense of accomplishment to have things crossed off The List. You know?

Over the weekend, I wracked my brain to think of a list I could share. Food! That’s it! I’ve got recipes out the wazoo…they’re lists, right? So here’s my first contribution to List It Tuesday.

Mix all of the ingredients and store them in an airtight container or jar.
This mix will keep in the fridge for about 10 days.
To make the chai tea, brew a cup of strong black tea.
Stir in one tablespoon of the spice mix.

It’s yummy!

the palace hotel in eureka springs

Eureka Springs is one of my favorite places to visit. It’s such a quirky little town. Very artsy. Fun to go there for shopping and eating and people watching.

Working from a photo I took in August, I did this drawing of the Palace Hotel.

peachtree at the lane

This is one of my favorite buildings in our downtown area. It’s been sitting empty since we moved here. So sad to see such a beautiful place sitting empty.

Its history goes like this:
Opened in 1928 as the Lane Hotel. Name change to the Harris Hotel in 1935 when it changed owners. Next, it was The Hotel Arkansas from 1948 until 1963. In 1967, it became The Defender’s Townhouse and was used as a retirement home. In 1977, new owners, new name. This time it was called the Rogers Townhouse. In 1999, it became Peachtree at the Lane which is what everyone calls it today.

Whenever we go eat or walk around downtown, we always climb the steps and have a peak in the windows. Its interior is beautiful. Except for the peeling paint and water stains on the ceiling. We actually got to tour the interior (ground floor only) at one of last summer’s Art Walks. It was a real treat to actually step foot inside the door.

Oh, if only I had a million bucks, I could buy it. And another 5 million or so to fix it up.

rocky raccoon

I don’t take many walks in the evening in my neighborhood. Too many critters out there. I like animals. Don’t get me wrong. I just don’t want to be startled by one.

Most of the time we see opossums. Now that’s one ugly little critter. My dad used to tell me that if I saw one to just kick it a little and it would roll over and play dead. I’m not sticking my foot anywhere near one of those. Are you kidding me??

I have seen huge spiders come out and sit on the road at night. My husband says they come out to get the warmth from the asphalt. One more reason to not venture out at night. It gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. I HATE spiders. Even the little ones.

We do have a neighborhood raccoon. He’s so cute. But I’m sure that if startled he would not hesitate to gnaw on my legs with his cute little raccoon teeth.

So in the evening, the critters can have the neighborhood. I’ll stay indoors. It’s getting near the time of year when I hibernate anyway.
